He led the Australian men's team in the final of the 4x200 metres freestyle relay with Ian Thorpe, Michael Klim, and Todd Pearson. The Australian team dominated the race from start to finish, breaking a new world record (7:07.05) and erasing the Soviet Union's 1992 Olympic record by almost four seconds.
