The women's 49 kg of Weightlifting 2020 during the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 24 July 2021 in the Tokyo International Forum. With 14 athletes competing, the event was won by Hou Zhihui from China, with Saikhom Mirabai Chanu from India taking the silver medal and Windy Cantika Aisah from Indonesia taking bronze.

Format

The competition exists out of two rounds in which athletes try to lift as much weight as possible. In the snatch round, this lift needs to be done in one continuous motion, while the competitors are allowed to rest the barbell on the chest in the clean and jerk. The athlete with the highest combined weight lifted wins the event.

Fourteen athletes qualified for the event with 2018 world champion and reigning Asian champion Hou Zhihui as the favorite for the title, though junior world champion Windy Cantika Aisah and 2017 world champion Saikhom Mirabai Chanu were also big names in the field. Jourdan Elizabeth Delacruz and Nina Sterckx had also high entry weights and seemed to be outsiders for the medals, with Fang Wan-ling, Hiromi Miyake, and Anais Michel also competing in group A.
