The men's tournament of Water Polo 2020 during the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 25 July-8 August 2021 in the Tatsumi Water Polo Centre. With 12 teams competing, the event was won by the team from Serbia, with Greece taking the silver medal and Hungary taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of two groups of six, with each team playing another once. Standings are primarily based on win/loss-record, with the team scoring the most goals in a certain amount of time. The top four ranked teams advance to the quarterfinals. After this, a single knockout phase is played, with the winners of the quarterfinals advancing to the semifinals, and the winners of the final winning the event.

Twelve teams qualified for the event with quite a few teams contending for the medals. Serbia and Montenegro seemed to be the strongest teams of the field, with the former being the defending Olympic champion, but Italy took gold at the most recent world championships, while Hungary took the European title. Spain drew the short end in both finals and would be another team to take into account, while other potential medal contenders and outsiders also included traditional powerhouse Greece and defending silver medalist Croatia.
