Volleyball at the 1996 Summer Olympics was held from 20 July to 4 August 1996 at the Omni Coliseum (indoor), Stegeman Coliseum (indoor), and Atlanta Beach Volleyball Centre (beach).
For the first time, men's and women's beach volleyball was officially included in the Olympic program as a full-medal sport. On the contrary, this edition marked the last Olympic volleyball tournament to use side-out scoring, where a team could only score on its own serve.
The women's volleyball tournament was also expanded to twelve teams from eight at Barcelona 1992, separated into two pools of six.
