The United States Virgin Islands first participated at the Olympic Games in 1968 and sent its athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic edition since then, except when they boycotted Moscow 1980. The nation has also appeared in seven Winter Olympic Games since its official debut in Calgary 1988, having only missed Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010, and Pyeongchang 2018.

Athletes from the Virgin Islands have won a single medal at the Summer Olympic Games with a silver from sailor Peter Holmberg in the Finn class at Seoul 1988.

The Virgin Islands Olympic Committee was established and duly recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1967.
