Valeri Liukin is a gymnast who has competed for the Soviet Union. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
During the Games, Liukin helped the Soviet men restore their Olympic glory from the 1984 boycott with an all-around title over East Germany and the defending champion Japan in the team portion. He finished second behind his teammate Vladimir Artemov on the parallel bars and in the individual all-around final by a fraction. He also tied for the gold with Artemov on the horizontal bar routine, amassing 19.900 total points. Earlier in the prelims, Liukin almost missed the parallel bars final after posting the third highest score behind Artemov and Dmitri Bilozertchev; however, the latter relinquished his spot to Liukin for unknown reasons.
Liukin is the father and coach of Beijing 2008 all-around champion Nastia Liukin.
