Vadim Iarouchtchouk is a swimmer who has competed for the Soviet Union. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
Iarouchtchouk was highly regarded as one of the world's fastest swimmers in the butterfly and individual medley through the late 1980s. He was expected to win medals in the butterfly double, but failed to attain a single medal in any of them, finishing last of the eight-man final in the 100 and landing on the fourth spot and eleventh overall in the B-final of the 200.
Iarouchtchouk's chances for an Olympic medal faded until he opted to swim the 200 metres individual medley, an event that brought him to fame on the global scale. He started the race with a early lead at the expense of his butterfly leg before exchanging spots with Patrick Kühl on the backstroke leg. Both he and Kühl fought each other in a sprint challenge towards the 150-metre turn until Tamás Darnyi put the gold medal away from them with his fine freestyle swim and a new world record. Meanwhile, Iarouchtchouk ended his race with a bronze as Kühl pass him near the wall to snatch the silver. He also added another bronze as a butterfly swimmer of the Soviet men's team in the 4x100 metres medley relay.
