Uruguay first participated at the Olympic Games in 1924 and sent its athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic edition since then, except when they boycotted Moscow 1980. This nation has competed in Winter Olympic Games once, only in 1998.
Uruguay has not yet won any medals at the Winter Olympic Games, but the athletes have won a total of ten medals at the Summer Olympic Games, including two golds from the men's football tournament in 1924 and 1928.
Uruguayan Olympic Committee was created and duly recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1923.
