Troy Dalbey is a swimmer who has competed for the United States. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
In the men's 4x100 metres freestyle relay, he put on a blazing finish to move the Americans ahead to the front before he handed Thomas Jager and Matthew Biondi their relay duties at the remaining exchanges of the race. Then, he witnessed Biondi deliver the fastest split of the field for the Americans' title defense with a new world record. He also continued to help his teammates Gjertsen, Biondi, and Matthew Cetlinski set another world record for their second straight title in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay. On the individual side, he passed the sub-1:49 range to notch the seventh spot in the 200 metres freestyle final.
While he celebrated his victories with Gjertsen in a Korean bar, they removed a wall decoration of a marble lion's head and were arrested by the Korean police. Dalbey and Gjertsen left the U.S. Olympic team, apologized to their Korean hosts in writing, and the Korean prosecutor filed no formal charges. Dalbey soon received an 18-month suspension from competitive swimming.
