The mixed relay of Triathlon 2020 during the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 31 July 2021 in the Odaiba Marine Park. With 17 teams competing, the event was won by the team from Great Britain, with United States taking the silver medal and France taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of a single race, in which all teams, consisting of four athletes, conduct a course involving 300 metres of swimming, 6.8 kilometres of cycling, and 2 kilometres of running per athlete. The team with the fastest time after four athletes is the winner of the event.
Preview[]
Seventeen teams qualified for the inaugural edition of the mixed relay with the teams from Great Britain and the United States looking the strongest. The British representation was the only team to have all four athletes in the top 10 of the individual events, while especially the American women qualified as some of the strongest triathletes in the world. Quite a few other teams could contend for the medals, with France, Australia, Spain, and the Netherlands all having multiple athletes in the top of the world.
