The 1964 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XVIII Olympiad and also known as Tokyo 1964) were an international multi-sport event held between 10 and 24 October 1964 in Tokyo, Japan. The city had previously been awarded the 1940 Summer Games, but this honor was subsequently passed to Helsinki, Finland, due to Japan's invasion of China, before ultimately being canceled due to World War II. The 1964 Summer Games were the first Olympics to be held in Asia, as well as the first to be broadcast internationally.
