Taizo Sugitani has competed for Japan

Taizo Sugitani is an equestrian who has competed for Japan. He competed at the 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympic Games. He became the first Japanese athlete to ever participate in six editions of the Summer Olympic Games. He attempted to qualify for the host nation's equestrian team at Tokyo 2020 but a poor condition of his horse ruled him out of the Games.

His father Masayasu Sugitani was a member of the Japanese jumping team for three editions of the Olympic Games between 1968 and 1976. His grandfather Koichi Kawaguchi represented Japan in equestrian at the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Stockholm.
