Home favorite Daiya Seto was the reigning world champion, but received strong contention from the man in form Michael Andrew and Mitch Larkin. Hugo Gonzalez was the reigning European champion, Jeremy Desplanches won silver at the European and world championships, Chase Kalisz won bronze at the world championships, and Duncan Scott and Wang Shun had also recorded fast times throughout the year.
