Swimming is one of the few sports that has been featured at every edition of the Summer Olympic Games. It has the second-highest amount of events, after Athletics. Because of the governing FINA being founded in 1908, the distances at the 1904 Summer Olympics were measured in yards, which caused them to be slightly shorter or longer than the usual distances. Women have been allowed to compete since the 1912 Summer Olympics.
