Suriname first participated at the Olympic Games in 1960, and has sent athletes to compete in most Summer Olympic Games since then. The nation missed Tokyo 1964 and also joined the American-led boycott in Moscow 1980. Suriname has never participated in the Winter Olympic Games.
Surinamese athletes have won a total of two medals at the Summer Olympic Games, all awarded to swimmer Anthony Nesty.
Suriname Olympic Committee was created and duly recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1959.
