The women's 500 metre of Speed Skating 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 13 February 2022 in the Beijing National Speed Skating Oval. With 30 athletes competing, the event was won by Erin Jackson from United States, with Miho Takagi from Japan taking the silver medal and Angelina Golikova from ROC taking bronze.

The competition exists out of fifteen head-to-head races of 500 metres. The competitor with the fastest time is the winner.
Preview[]
Thirty athletes qualified for the event with Erin Jackson as the breakthrough of the season. The American had dominated the start of the World Cup season by winning the first three races, and continued by finishing the the top 3 in three of the following five events. Defending Olympic champion Nao Kodaira, Andzelika Wojcik, Olga Fatkulina, and reigning world champion Angelina Golikova divided the remaining events, though there were still a lot of other medal contenders in the field. Femke Kok won silver at the most recent world championships and dominated the 2021 World Cup after winning all events, Kaja Ziomek finished in the top 3 of three World Cup events, Jutta Leerdam had previously won the world championships sprint, and Tian Ruining had been one of the most consistent speed skaters throughout the season.
Femke Kok was the youngest athlete in the field at the age of 21, and was six months younger than Julie Nistad Samsonsen, as the only two athletes to have been born after 1 January 2000, followed by Hanna Nifantava, Michelle de Jong, and Kim Min-sun. Defending Olympic champion Nao Kodaira was one of the veterans of the field at the age of 35, and was over a year older than Arisa Go, Brittany Bowe, and Huang Yu-ting. Kodaira was also a four-time Olympian, together with Yekaterina Aidova, followed by six athletes with three. In a field of thirty athletes, fifteen made or had made their Olympic debuts in Beijing.

Erin Jackson became the first African-American woman to win a title at the Olympic Winter Games, was the first gold medal for the United States in speed skating since Shani Davis won gold in the 1000 metres in 2010, and the first gold medal for an American woman in speed skating since Chris Witty won gold in the 1000 metres in 2002. Miho Takagi recorded a new personal record to win her fifth Olympic medal, and her first medal in the shortest distance, while Angelina Golikova won her first Olympic medal after finishing 18th and 7th in 2014 and 2018. Vanessa Herzog missed the podium by seven-hundredth of a second, after also having finished fourth in 2018, while Dutch debutantes Jutta Leerdam and Femke Kok finished fifth and sixth.
