South Korea first participated at the Olympic Games in 1948, although South Korean athletes had appeared before as part of Japan. The nation has also appeared at almost every edition of the Winter Olympic Games since St. Moritz 1948, only missing out on Oslo 1952.
South Korea has won over 350 medals at the Olympic Games, of which most in Short Track, Judo, Archery, and Wrestling. The nation has won 79 medals at the Winter Olympic Games, of which the big majority in short track and speed skating.
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee was created recognized in 1947.
