The men's normal hill of Ski Jumping 2018 during the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 8-10 February 2018 in the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre. With 57 athletes competing, the event was won by Andreas Wellinger from Germany, with Johann Andre Forfang from Norway taking the silver medal and Robert Johansson from Norway taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of three separate rounds. In the qualification, all competitors performed a jump, scored on distance, balance, style, and some other factors. The forty ski jumpers with the highest scores, as well as the ten ski jumpers in the top 10 of the World Cup rankings, advance to the competition round, in which all fifty competitors jump again. The thirty athletes with the highest scores advance to the final. The athlete with the highest combined score of the competition round and the final round is the winner of the event.

Preview[]

Fifty-seven athletes qualified for the event, with Kamil Stoch as the top seed and defending champion. Poland was represented by a very strong team, besides Stoch also by Dawid Kubacki, Stefan Hula, and Maciej Kot. Germany and Norway both had three athletes in the first few seeds, with Germany's Richard Freitag and Andreas Wellinger in the top 3, and Norway's Daniel Andre Tande, Johann Andre Forfang, and Robert Johansson completing the top 6. The defending silver medalist Peter Prevc was also competing, just like outsiders Stefan Kraft, Junshiro Kobayashi, Markus Eisenbichler, Andreas Stjernen, and Karl Geiger.
