Simone Biles is a gymnast who has competed for the United States. She competed at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympic Games. She is widely considered as the most decorated gymnast in history, winning a total of seven medals (seven golds, a silver, and two bronze) throughout her Olympic career.
Biles arrived at her first Olympics in 2016 as a top medal favorite in the individual apparatus and all-around tournaments. She won individual gold medals in the all-around, vault, and floor; and a bronze in the balance beam. Moreover, she helped the American women, dubbed the Final Five successfully defend their title in the team all-around routine. With four golds, she set an American record for the most number of victories in women's gymnastics at a single edition. She also succeeded her teammate Gabrielle Douglas to dominate both the individual and team all-around routines at the same Olympiad.
Five years later in Tokyo, Biles was favored to retain her all-around title for the first time since Mexico City 1968 and win at least four of the six available gold medals; however, she withdrew from the rest of the team all-around final and the individual apparatus events, citing mental health issues and experiencing the twisties, a temporary loss of air awareness while performing twisting elements. She managed to claim a silver as part of the U.S. women's team behind the Russians in the team all-around and finished third behind the Chinese duo Guan Chenchen and Tang Xijing in the women's balance beam final.
