Silvia Poll is a swimmer who has competed for Costa Rica. She competed at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympic Games. She set a historic record as the first-ever athlete from Costa Rica to win an Olympic medal.
At her first Olympics in 1988, Poll became the country's first-ever Olympic medalist when she scored a silver behind the winner Heike Friedrich in the 200 metres freestyle final. Moreover, she improved her own national record to crack the 1:59 threshold. She also entered the finals of the 100 metres freestyle and 100 metres backstroke but could not replicate her podium feat in any of her races.
Four years later in Barcelona, Poll shifted her attention to swim in the backstroke double instead of her usual freestyle. Almost similar to her results from Seoul, she fared poorly in her respective races, placing seventh in the 200 and landing on the fifteenth spot in the B-finals of the 100.
She is the older sister of Atlanta 1996 champion Claudia Poll.
