The men's 1500 metre of Short Track 2018 during the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 10 February 2018 in the Gangneung Ice Arena. With 37 athletes competing, the event was won by Lim Hyo-jun from South Korea, with Sjinkie Knegt from Netherlands taking the silver medal and Semen Elistratov from Olympic Athletes from Russia taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of three rounds, each with races of six skaters. In the first round, the top three with the fastest times advance to the next round, with confirmation of a jury. The semifinals see the fastest two competitors advance to the final. The fastest competitor in the final is the winner of the event.

Preview[]

Thirty-seven athletes qualified for the event, with Hwang Dae-heon as the leader in the World Cup standings. As per tradition, the skaters from South Korea were well represented, with Lim Hyo-jun and Seo Yi-ra as the other competitors. Defending Olympic champion Charles Hamelin was the second seed, leading the charge of veterans with chances for a medal, with world record holder Sjinkie Knegt, former bronze medalist J.R. Celski, and Thibaut Fauconnet in his tracks. The Hungarian twins Shaolin Sandor Liu and Shaoang Liu were also well within the top 10 of the world rankings to contend for a medal. Other outsiders included the silver medalist at the world championships Samuel Girard, Semen Elistratov, Han Tianyu, Vladislav Bykanov, Wu Dajing, and Itzhak de Laat.
