Short Track has been featured since the 1992 Winter Olympics, although it had appeared at Calgary 1988 as a demonstration event. Short track is part of the Skating program, together with Figure Skating and Speed Skating.
South Korea has won the most medal in short track, nearing 50 out of 168 total medals, including 24 out of 56 gold medals. Behind South Korea, China and Canada are among the countries that have traditionally performed well in the sport, with the Netherlands, Hungary, and Russia having performed well in recent years.
