The 1984 Winter Olympics (officially the XIV Olympic Winter Games and also known as Sarajevo 1984) were an international winter multi-sport event held between 8 and 19 February 1984 in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Yugoslavia. These were the first Winter Games and the second Olympics to be held in a Communist state (the first being the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow).

Mascot[]
Vučko was the mascot of the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Hezegovina. He was chosen through a contest entered by 836 participants, and wasp art of the 6 finalists. Other finalists included a snowball, a hedgehog, a mountain goat, a lamb, and a weasel. readers of various newspapers could later on vote for the final mascot to be used for the games. He was created by Slovenian painter Jože Trobec. He is a wolf, due to the fact that wolves were prominent figures in Yugoslavian fables; he symbolizes strength and courage, and he also symbolizes winter. With the use of his smiling, serious, or frightening expressions, Vučko gave the wolf a friendly appearance and also helped to change the image of the wolf's usual image of being intimidating. He also wears an orange scarf with the Sarajevo 84 logo on it.
