The women's double sculls of Rowing 2020 during the 2020 Summer Olympics was held on 23-28 July 2021 in the Sea Forest Waterway. With 13 pairs competing, the event was won by Ancuta Bodnar and Simona Radis from Romania, with Brooke Donoghue and Hannah Osborne from New Zealand taking the silver medal and Roos de Jong and Lisa Scheenaard from Netherlands taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of three rounds, each with races of up to eight boats. In each round, the top few with the fastest time advance to the next round, together with a number of fastest non-qualifiers. The fastest team in the final is the winner of the event.

Preview[]

Thirteen pairs qualified for the event with New Zealand as the reigning world champion, and Romania as the reigning European champion. The Netherlands took bronze at the most recent world championships, ahead of Canada and the United States, which finished within a second from the Dutch boat. Lithuania won silver at the European championships, and would be another pair to keep in mind. Other potential outsiders and medal contenders included Italy, Germany, and France.
