In a fast heat, which featured a new Olympic record by Decker, Abdallah finished ninth with a time of 10:48.00 as the only athlete over 10 minutes, ranking 28th in the heats and unable to qualify for the final. Decker eventually fell in the final, with second-placed in the heat Lynn Williams clinching a bronze medal in the event.
