Petria Thomas is a swimmer who has competed for Australia. She competed at the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
Thomas started her first Olympics in 1996 as a top medal favorite in the distance butterfly. She trailed the winner and her teammate Susie O'Neill by more than a full second to take a silver with a time of 2:09.82.
When Sydney hosted her second Games in 2000, Thomas added three more medals to her career haul, a bronze in the 200 metres butterfly and a silver each as a member of the Australian women's team in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay and 4x100 metres medley relay.
With O'Neill retiring after Sydney 2000, Thomas rebounded from her race struggles against O'Neill in two straight editions to attain her first career gold in the 100 metres butterfly four years later in Athens. She also repeated her runner-up feat from Atlanta in the 200 metres butterfly, trailing the world record holder Otylia Jędrzejczak of Poland by 0.31 of a second. She helped the Australian women solidify their gold medal triumphs in the 4x100 metres freestyle relay (the first in 48 years) and the 4x100 metres medley relay.
