Oszkár Abay-Nemes was a swimmer who competed for Hungary. He competed at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games. He passed away on 30 January 1959 at age 45.
He competed in the swimming competitions at the Olympic Games in 1936 and first entered the men's 100 metres freestyle heats, with the two fastest competitors advancing to the semifinals. In the seventh heat of the competition, he raced to the second-fastest time, only behind Arthur Lindegren, in a time of 1:00.2 to qualify for the next round. In the semifinals later in the day, he was not able to repeat his good performance of the heats: with a time of 1:01.1, he finished seventh in his race, just ahead of John Christensen, and was not able to advance to the final with the fifteenth time in the semifinals. Abay-Nemes also competed in the 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay which raced in the second heat of the first round. The team finished behind a dominant American team with a time of 9:20.8 on second place to qualify for the final, and recorded the third-fastest time in the heats in total, behind the United States and Japan. The final followed the same orders, with Japan winning gold in a new world record ahead of the United States, and Abay-Nemes winning bronze with Hungary, six seconds ahead of the French team.
