The men's team large hill of Nordic Combined 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 17 February 2022 in the Zhangjiakou National Cross-Country Skiing Centre and Zhangjiakou National Ski Jumping Centre. With 10 teams competing, the event was won by the team from Norway, with Germany taking the silver medal and Japan taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of two separate rounds. In the ski jumping competition round, all competitors performed a single jump, scored on distance, balance, style, and some other factors. All competitors then compete in a cross-country competition, with start differences based on the result of the ski jumping. The team which finished first in the cross-country competition is the winner of the event.
Preview[]
Ten teams qualified for the event with Germany as the favorite for the title, though Norway had won three out of six medals in the individual events. Austria won bronze in 2018 and would be the frontrunner for the remaining medals, ahead of Japan, Finland, and the United States. France and Czech Republic were two of the outsiders, with Italy and home country China completing the field.
Home favorites China used the competition to put youth forward and was the only team to compete with all athletes born after 1 January 2000. Fan Haibin was the youngest member of the team at the age of 17 and was two years younger than Italian skier Iacopo Bortolas with another year over Matteo Baud and Perttu Reponen, with all four making their Olympic debuts. The Japanese team members Hideaki Nagai and the five years younger Akito Watabe were the oldest competitors in the field, with Atabe one of two athletes to make their fifth Olympic appearance, the other being Alessandro Pittin. Thirty-three years old Eric Frenzel was one of the few athletes who followed with their fourth Olympic appearance, as did Taylor Fletcher, with twenty competitors making their Olympic debuts in Beijing.

Norway reclaimed the Olympic title they won in 2014, though Joergen Graabak was the only remaining from that winning team. Espen Andersen, Espen Bjoernstad, and Jens Luraas Oftebro all made their Olympic debuts in Beijing, with Oftebro winning the silver medal in the large hill event, behind Graabak, who won his sixth Olympic medal. The defending Olympic champions from Germany won silver this time, just as they had done in 2014. Eric Frenzel and Vinzenz Geiger were remaining from the success team that won gold in the event in 2018, with Manuel Faisst and Julian Schmid winning their first Olympic medals after they competed at the Olympic Games for the first time in 2022. Team Japan continued their performance trend in the event, after finishing sixth in 2010, fifth in 2014, and fourth in 2018, they won a bronze medal here. Akito Watabe won his fourth Olympic medal , with Hideaki Nagai, Yoshito Watabe, and Ryota Yamamoto winning their first. Austria missed out on the medals for the first time since 1998, and wasn't able to win a medal in the event for only the third time since the inaugural edition in 1988. France and the United States completed the top 6.
