The men's 10 km normal hill of Nordic Combined 2014 during the 2014 Winter Olympics was held on 12 February 2014 in the RusSki Gorki Ski Jumping Center. With 46 athletes competing, the event was won by Eric Frenzel from Germany, with Akito Watabe from Japan taking the silver medal and Magnus Krog from Norway taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of two separate rounds. In the ski jumping competition round, all competitors performed a single jump, scored on distance, balance, style, and some other factors. All competitors then compete in a cross-country competition, with start differences based on the result of the ski jumping. The athlete who finished first in the cross-country competition is the winner of the event.
Preview[]
Forty-six athletes qualified for the event with Eric Frenzel as one of the big favorites for the title, although there were plenty of winners of World Cup events in only the last two months. These other winners included the reigning Olympic champion and world champion Jason Lamy Chappuis, Magnus Hovdal Moan, Tim Hug, and Wilhelm Denifl. The world champion of 2009 Todd Lodwick was also in the field, just like the silver medalists of the two most recent world championships Mario Stecher and Tino Edelmann. Other potential outsiders and medal contenders also included Akito Watabe, Mikko Kokslien, Fabian Riessle, Taylor Fletcher, and Johannes Rydzek.
