Niger first participated at the Olympic Games in 1964, and has sent athletes to compete in most Summer Olympic Games since then. The nation joined the Congolese-led boycott in Montreal 1976 and the American-led boycott in Moscow 1980. Niger has never attended any edition of the Winter Olympic Games.

Nigerien athletes have won a total of two medals at the Summer Olympic Games, a bronze from boxer Issaka Daborg in the men's light welterweight division at Munich 1972; and a silver from taekwondo fighter Abdoulrazak Issoufou Alfaga in the men's heavyweight category at Rio de Janeiro 2016.
