Mutaz Essa Barshim is a track and field athlete who has competed for Qatar. He competed at the 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympic Games. He initially won the bronze medal at the high jumping competition in 2012, but this was upgraded to silver after winner Ivan Ukhov was disqualified. In 2016, he became the first Qatari athlete to win an Olympic silver medal. Five years later in Tokyo, he shared the gold with Gianmarco Tamberi. He was selected to carry the Qatari flag during the Paris 2024 opening ceremony with Shahd Ashraf.
