Malta first participated at the Olympic Games in 1920 and has sent athletes to compete in most editions of the Summer Olympic Games since then and in every edition of the Winter Olympic Games since its debut in 1984. The nation missed Los Angeles 1932, Melbourne 1956, and Moscow 1980, as part of the American-led boycott. Currently, Monegasque athletes attended a total of thirty-two editions at the Games (twenty-one Summer and eleven Winter) but neither of them has ever won a single medal.

The Monegasque Olympic Committee was established in 1903 and duly recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1950.
