Luo Xuejuan is a swimmer who has competed for China. She competed at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
Luo started her Olympic career as a 16-year-old, in Sydney 2000. There, she dropped to last of the top eight finalists in the 200 metres breaststroke.
Luo's career highlight transpired four years later in Athens where she claimed her only individual gold in the 100 metres breaststroke with a new Olympic record (1:06.64), the third fastest time in history, missing the world record by 0.27 of a second. She scratched the 200 metres breaststroke to focus on swimming the medley relay race. Unfortunately, she and her Chinese teammates shut out the podium in fourth place. Luo swam the race with a heart ailment and required assistance from the team to leave the pool after the breaststroke leg.
In 2007, Luo retired from competitive swimming because of heart ailments that had plagued her and had caused fainting spells during her training.
