Lithuania first participated as an independent country at the Olympic Games in 1924, although athletes might have appeared before as Russian Empire. Between 1952 and 1988, it competed as a part of Soviet Union. Since 1992, it once again appeared as independent representation.

Lithuania won 26 medals at the Olympic Games, wit the most medals in athletics and modern pentathlon, though the remaining 15 medals were won in 10 different sports, including rowing, basketball, and wrestling. Lithuania has yet to win a medal at the Winter Olympic Games.

The National Olympic Committee of Lithuania was created and recognized in 1924. After the invasion of the Soviet Union, the committee was reinstated in 1988, and recognized in 1991.
