Lars Frölander is a swimmer who has competed for Sweden. He competed at the 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012 Summer Olympic Games.
Frölander started his Olympic career in 1992 with a runner-up spot as a member of the Swedish men's team in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay (7:15.51). Four years later in Atlanta, he repeated the feat on the same relay race with his teammates Anders Holmertz, Anders Lyrbring, and Christer Wallin at 7:17.56.
Sydney 2000 turned to be the most crucial point of Frölander's competitive swimming career. In the 100 metres butterfly, he upset the Australian duo of Michael Klim and Geoff Huegill at the last 25 metres to snatch a surprising gold with a European record time (52.00). His winning time also missed the Olympic record by 0.04 seconds. With this feat, Frölander became the first Swedish swimmer after two decades to win an Olympic gold medal.
Frölander has continued to be a member of the Swedish swimming team at Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012. He struggled to reach his peak from Sydney, as he placed outside medals with the Swedish team in the freestyle relay races and barely advanced from the heats in the 100 metres butterfly. He was also selected to carry the Swedish flag at the Athens 2004 opening ceremony.
