Krisztina Egerszegi is a swimmer who has competed for Hungary. She competed at the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
At her first Olympics in 1988, Egerszegi claimed a silver in the women's 100 metres backstroke and scored a gold-medal triumph in the 200. At the age of 14 years and 41 days, she became the youngest-ever female Olympic champion in swimming until Kyoko Iwasaki attained this feat in 1992.
Four years later in Barcelona, Egerszegi managed to defend her title in the 200 metres backstroke and added two more golds in the 100 metres backstroke and 400 metres individual medley. With this feat, she became the only female athlete at the Games to accomplish three golds.
Egerszegi returned to her third Games in 1996 as the two-time champion in the women's 200 metres backstroke. She pulled away from the rest of the field to capture her fifth individual gold by the widest margin of any short-distance events in swimming. Her winning time (2:07.83) was 4.15 seconds ahead of the runner-up Whitney Hedgepeth (2:11.98). With her successful title defense in the 200 metres backstroke, she became the second swimmer to win a gold in the same event at three straight Games, following Dawn Fraser. Apart from her pet race, Egerszegi also claimed her first and only bronze in the 400 metres individual medley and placed eleventh as a member of the Hungarian women's team in the heats of the 4x100 metres medley relay.
Shortly after the Games, Egerszegi retired from competitive swimming. She ended her illustrious Olympic career with a medal haul of seven (five gold, one silver, and one bronze).
