Károly Güttler has competed for Hungary Károly Güttler has won 2 silver medals at the Olympic Games

Károly Güttler is a swimmer who has competed for Hungary. He competed at the 1988, 1992, 1996, and 2000 Summer Olympic Games.

At his first Olympics in 1988, Guttler claimed a silver in the men's 100 metres breaststroke, finishing between Dmitri Volkov and the winner Adrian Moorhouse by the slimmest of a margin (0.01).

Guttler has continued to be a member of the Hungarian team at Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000. In 1992, he swam the breaststroke double (100 and 200) but failed to attain a single medal in any of his races. When he entered his third Games four years later in Atlanta as a medal favorite and the current world-record holder, Guttler retrieved his best form to ascend the Olympic podium once again in the same stroke. He repeated his runner-up feat from Seoul in the 200 metres breaststroke, trailing his teammate Norbert Rózsa by more than half a second. On the other half of his breaststroke double (100), he barely missed the podium by 0.16 of a second behind Mark Warnecke.

At his fourth Olympics in 2000, Guttler set a historic milestone as one of the first Hungarian swimmers to compete in four successive editions. Though he missed the final of the 100 metres breaststroke, he and his Hungarian teammates finished the race with a fifth-place time in the men's 4x100 metres medley relay by swimming through the breaststroke leg.

In 2001, Guttler retired from competitive swimming.
