José María Abarca is a water polo player who has competed for Spain. He competed at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.
He was the one of the youngest members of the Spanish men's water polo team of 1996, behind Carlos Sanz and Ivan Moro. His playing time in the competition was fairly limited, with about seven minutes of total playing time in eight matches, and he was the only player of the Spanish team to have been unable to score a goal. After a successful group stage, advancing to the quarterfinals after having ranked third in group A, the Spanish team went on to win the gold medal in the event.
