José Luis Abajo is a fencer who has competed for Spain. He competed at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. He has reached the best result by a Spaniard in fencing ever, winning the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games.

At his only appearance at the Olympic Games in 2008, he was the fifteenth seed for the individual épée competition. This meant that he received a bye for the first round, after which he competed in the second round against the seventeenth seed and reigning Asian champion Kim Won-jin. In a very close bout, in which both athletes had not been more than two points apart, the Spaniard took the win with 15 - 14. In the third round against second seed Jerome Jeannet, Abalo started very strong, taking a four-point lead, and won decisively with six points difference. The quarterfinal against tenth seed Diego Confalonieri was once again quite close, winning 14 - 13, but he lost his semifinal afterwards against third seed Matteo Tagliariol. His bronze medal bout against Gabor Boczko was won after overtime, winning the first Spanish medal in Olympic fencing.
