John Aalberg has competed for USA

John Aalberg is a ski racer who has competed for the United States. He competed at the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympic Games. He immigrated to the United States, and he became a US citizen one month before the Olympic Games in 1992 started, making him eligible to represent the United States. He was also the cross-country project manager for Soldier Hollow for Salt Lake City 2002, the competition assistant technical delegate at Torino 2006, the general manager/director of the Whistler Olympic Park for Vancouver 2010, and was the sport consultant for the cross-country venues at Pyeongchang 2018.

Representing the United States in Albertville in 1992, he participated in four events. At the shortest distance, the 10 km classical style, he finished as the best American on 18th place, more than two minutes behind gold medalist Vegard Ulvang. Two days later, in the pursuit in the free technique, he finished 26th, again as the fastest American skier, over three minutes behind the podium. In the relay and the longest distance the 50 km, he couldn't impress either, with a 12th place in the relay and a 33rd place in the 50 km free technique.

Hoping to improve two years later, he participated in most of the same events, except for the 50 km, which he replaced with the somewhat shorter 30 km. With this 30 km in the free technique coming up first, he had a reasonable start, positioned 26th, but fell back to around 45th for the remainder of the race. Trying to improve his result in the 10 km classical technique, he finished 45th, almost 3 minutes behind winner Bjorn Daehlie, definitely not an improvement on two years prior, when he finished 18th. The pursuit showed at least some sparkle of retribution, finishing 33rd in a field of 74. In the relay, the United States finished 13th out of 14, despite being on the tenth place after his turn.
