The Jeongseon Alpine Centre (정선 알파인 경기장) was constructed for Pyeongchang 2018, in order to host most of the Alpine Skiing events. It was built on the Gariwangsan, a mountain of 1560 metres tall about 25 kilometres from Pyeongchang. The venue with a capacity of 6,500 was opened on 22 January 2016.
To build the venue, the entire area had to be deforested, which was heavily criticized by environmental groups. To make a compromise between the two parties, it was decided that the forest would be restored after the events were finished.
