Jani Sievinen is a swimmer who has competed for Finland. He competed at the 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
At his first Olympics in 1992, Sievinen entered the final as the fastest swimmer with a Finnish record time (2:01.18) from the heats, but he narrowly missed the podium by 0.28 seconds behind the bronze medalist Attila Czene.
Four years later in Atlanta, Sievinen returned to his second Games as the current world record holder, the reigning world champion, and the top medal contender in the 200 metres individual medley. The fastest entrant for the final, he faced an intense pressure against his rivals, including Czene, towards the freestyle leg, ending the race with a first silver for the Finnish swimming team in history.
Sievinen has continued to be a member of the Finnish swimming team at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, but he struggled to repeat a podium feat from Atlanta in any of his races.
