Iraq first participated at the Olympic Games in 1948, but only appeared in three editions in the next 30 years. The nation has not participated at the Winter Olympic Games yet. Iraq has won an Olympic bronze medal in 1960 in weightlifting, but is since yet to win a second medal.

The National Olympic Committee of the Iraq was created and recognized in 1948.
