Iceland first participated at the Olympic Games in 1908, and it has competed in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games since Berlin 1936 and almost every edition of the Winter Olympic Games since St. Moritz 1948.

The National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland was created in 1921 and recognized in 1935.
