Hungary first participated at the Olympic Games in 1896. It has only missed participation at the Olympic Games twice, in 1920 and 1984. The nation has participated in every edition of the Winter Olympic Games.
Hungary has won around 500 medals at the Summer Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games, having won medals in each edition of the Summer Olympic Games it had competed in, with fencing, canoeing, and swimming bringing about over 70 medals each. It is the country that has won the most Olympic medals while never having hosted the event.
The Hungarian Olympic Association was created and recognized in 1895.
