Handball at the 1988 Summer Olympics was held from 20 September to 1 October 1988 at the Suwon Gymnasium with the final round matches contested at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena.
The women's handball tournament was expanded to eight teams from six at Los Angeles 1984; hence, two preliminary pool matches would determine the top four teams advancing to the next round.
