Giovanni Abagnale has competed for Italy Giovanni Abagnale has won 1 bronze medal at the Olympic Games

Giovanni Abagnale is a rower who has competed for Italy. He competed at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Despite having taken part in the medal-winning men's eight at one of the World Cup events in 2016, he only competed in the men's pair with Marco di Costanzo at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He was the third-youngest Italian rower behind Enrico D'Aniello and Valentina Rodini. After finishing second in the heats, behind the towering favorites from New Zealand, they won their semifinal in a very close race. In the final of six teams, they finished third behind New Zealand and South Africa after being second halfway through, winning one of two rowing medals for Italy in Brazil.

In a postponed edition of the Olympic Games in 2021, they once again competed, now as defending bronze medalists. They smoothly qualified for the semifinals after finishing second in the second heat, sex seconds behind the Australian pair, but comfortably ahead of the rest of the heat. In the semifinals, he competed alongside Vincenzo Abbagnale instead of Di Constanzo, but they were only able to finish fifth to qualify for the B final, after the Canadian boat grabbed the last qualification place with a strong last part of the race. They couldn't make any impact in the B final with a fifth place after being in the back of the race since the start.
