Gianmarco Tamberi is a track and field athlete who has competed for Italy.
He competed at the 2012, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympic Games. He was named to the Italian track and field team for Rio de Janeiro 2016 but a serious ankle injury effectively canceled his Olympic bid. He was also selected to carry the Italian flag during the Paris 2024 opening ceremony with Arianna Errigo.
At Tokyo 2020, Tamberi, along with the returning silver medalist Mutaz Essa Barshim from Rio de Janeiro, emerged as the joint winners in the men's high jump as they both cleared 2.37 metres. Both of them agreed to share the gold medal in a rare instance with Barshim asking the competition referee "Can we have two golds?" instead of being offered a jump-off. When the official nodded the question, both Tamberi and Barshim embraced each other with the former's words, "History, my friend."
He is the son of Moscow 1980 high jumper Marco Tamberi.
