Giaan Rooney is a swimmer who has competed for Australia. She competed at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games.
When Sydney hosted her first Games in 2000, Rooney received a silver as a member of the Australian women's team in the 4x200 metres freestyle relay. She also contributed to her team's runner-up feat in the 4x100 metres medley relay by swimming through the backstroke leg in the heats. On the individual side, she only reached the semifinals of the 200 metres freestyle and failed to advance from the heats in the 100 metres backstroke with a nineteenth place time.
Athens 2004 marked the peak of Rooney's swimming career. Though she failed to medal in her pet race, she recorded an Oceania record time (1:01.18) on the backstroke leg to deliver the Australian women's team of Leisel Jones, Petria Thomas, and Jodie Henry a gold with a new world record time (3:57.32) in the 4x100 metres medley relay.
In 2006, Rooney retired from competitive swimming.
