Germany first participated at the Olympic Games in 1896. The nation also competed in Winter Olympic Games since 1928.

Germany has won over 600 medals at the Summer Olympic Games and over 240 medals at the Winter Olympic Games, with most medals in Athletics, Canoeing, and Swimming. The nation has won medals at every edition of the Olympic Games it participated in.

The German Olympic Committee was created and recognized in 1895, though only has existed in its current form since 2006. The members of the presidential board include the IOC president Thomas Bach.
